We have rare tank-bred specimens! The Green Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon simulans) is a close relative of the common Neon Tetra (P. innesi) and the Cardinal Tetra (P. axelrodi). It inhabits warm blackwater areas in Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia. It has typically been imported as wild-caught specimens, but we now have tank-bred specimens, which are typically more adaptable than their wild counterparts. This species is an excellent choice for the blackwater, nano, or planted aquarium.  The Green Neon Tetra typically occupies the top and middle level of the water column, although it can often be seen swimming and feeding in the middle and bottom levels as well. It is safe with other peaceful, small fish. Adult dwarf shrimp are generally safe as well, but the Green Neon Tetra may prey on dwarf shrimp fry. Larger, peaceful invertebrates can also make good tankmates. The Green Neon Tetra must be kept in schools of 6 or more. Since it is tank-raised, this fish is very adaptable, but its natural habitat contains soft, acidic water rich in tannins and leaf litter. This species requires significantly warmer water than many other tropical fish. Please see care guidelines below. While not a picky eater, the Green Neon Tetra will thrive and remain very colorful on a varied diet of meaty foods. High-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen or freeze-dried meaty foods will all be readily accepted.     What We Like About This Fish: Beautiful red and exceptional blue coloration Peaceful disposition with fish and peaceful invertebrates Very active and noticeable fish in any aquarium Excellent for inhabiting the top of the aquarium Tank-bred specimens RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS: Temperature:  76° - 82° F (25° - 28° C) pH:  3.0 - 6.5, though tank-bred specimens may be adaptable to more neutral pH KH:  1 - 8 dKH Minimum tank size:  10 gallons CARE GUIDELINES: Diet:  Omnivorous.
